BlockShow Asia returned to Singapore, hosted in the Marina Bay Sands and attended by the GSX Group. The two-day conference is one of the most atmospheric and energetic events in the blockchain calendar. Powered by Cointelegraph, BlockShow brings together innovative blockchain solutions, collaborative networking opportunities, and a shared platform for community growth and development within the blockchain industry.
BlockShow boasted a wide array of speakers, with many thought leaders within the blockchain space engaging in debates and discussions on investments, regulations, use-cases and institutional adoption. Some of the topics across the two packed stages, included “The Maturity of Blockchain: How Macro Level Developments are Moving the Industry Towards Institutionalisation” and “Where the Future Lies: Why Capital Markets Really Need Blockchain?” The changes in the landscape for the blockchain industry are clearly accentuated by the themes and trends witnessed at major conferences such as BlockShow.
The GSX Group exhibited at the event once again, after the tremendous reception we received last year when the Gibraltar Blockchain Exchange (GBX) was in its early stages. The team returned to welcome the 3000+ attendees and share with them the enormous amount of progress we have made in that time.
It was an incredible opportunity to inform attendees at BlockShow of the GBX’s recently-obtained status as a regulated blockchain exchange, thanks to the DLT licence granted by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. Our latest joint venture initiative, the STACS Protocol, which aims to transform the traditional capital markets utilising blockchain technology, was also a keen subject of interest. Visitors to the booth recognised the shift in focus towards tokenised securities and the many potential opportunities it presents. The event provided a chance to network and promote the GSX Group ecosystem and our aim to bring about a new era in blockchain powered finance.
GSX Group Networking Event
In parallel with the BlockShow event, the GSX Group held an evening of ‘Cocktail Drinks & Networking’ at Angie’s Oyster Bar, Singapore Land Tower. Hosted by Benjamin Soh, Executive Director of the GSX Group, the venue overlooked the impressive nighttime city horizon.
The event was to promote and discuss the transformative potential of the STACS Protocol. A scalable ledger network layer that seamlessly stacks atop existing businesses, enabling the tokenisation of the financial markets. Interested parties and members of the GBX community were invited, packing out a full venue, with attendees positively engrossed in discussions on the future of security tokens and the STACS Protocol.
SUSS Panel Discussion
The GSX Group also took part in a breakfast panel discussion at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Ben Soh, Executive Director for GBX, spoke alongside Mr Jack Chia of Cryptology, Peter Chio of Cryptocurrency Financial Services, Grace Ching of Herbert Smith Freehills and Selina Lin of The DRC Foundation, discussing Initial Crypto-token Offerings vs Security Token Offerings.
The panel noted the continuous importance of ICO’s and why there remains a much-needed space for them, most notably for new startup projects that need and depend upon tokens to drive community development. The important benefits of ICOs that led to their success, have not changed, but the market has.
Looking forward, the importance of STO’s as a complement to utility tokens, rather than a competitor, was discussed. The advantages of GSX’s STACS Protocol were also reviewed, especially for potential participants from more established and regulated sectors.
